screenwriter and director. He wrote and won an Oscar for 'Chinatown.' He also wrote 'The Last Detail,' 'Shampoo,' and 'Mission Impossible.' His dog was credited with, and nominated for an Oscar for, his writing on 'Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan.'
